What is EMess?

EMess is the development of a measuring robot for the automated setting and marking of measurement points. As a research and development project, EMess represents the next step in the automated layout of production plants.

The challenge

Building complete production plants, for example for vehicle bodies or vehicle assembly, requires the exact positioning and alignment of all plant components. Everything must be positioned exactly relative to each other, today within the sub millimetre range, so that safe, quality compliant assembly is possible.

  • Component stores
  • Auxiliary material stores
  • Robot stations
  • Media supplies

Status quo

With modern laser trackers this is possible, but it involves considerable time.

The goal of the project

A mobile robot that, assisted by a laser tracker, sets and marks the measurement points and thus achieves a significant increase in efficiency. The robot is intended to locate the real positions of the layout points, mark them and label them.
